A film essay, GERTRUDE BARNSTONE: HOME MOVIE examines the themes and mediations that have been of import in her remarkable life. For this second film in his HOME MOVIE series, filmmaker Jon Schwartz has turned his 45 year friendship with Gertrude, still going strong in her 90th year, into a film that is revealing and deeply humanistic. The film details her youthful beginnings as an artist, her stint as an actress, her pioneering liberal influence on the Houston Independent School District, and her marriage to architect Howard Barnstone. The film was shot by esteemed still photographer, Arthur Meyerson.
