In his first film essay, filmmaker Jon Schwartz profiles his father, Seymour Schwartz, and in doing so, chronicles a Houston, Texas Jewish family spanning the 20th Century. It’s the story of an ordinary man who lived an extraordinary life: a life that survived the Great Depression, fought a World War, married and raised a family, and when well into his 70s, took a stand when sued by the biggest law firm in town for using his property to grow food to feed the homeless. Interviews with the outspoken Seymour and his 3 brothers, Charles, Leo, and Newton, frame a family history richly illustrated by photographs, letters, and historical materials. The ever changing landscape of Houston serves as a backdrop to this one of a kind film.
